It's not unusual for smartphone manufacturers to promote their latest offerings. So it's not surprising then that in this bit of Sony Xperia M4 Aqua news, the Japanese tech firm took the opportunity to showcase the smartphone's waterproof property.

The International Business Times reported that Sony launched DirtyPhones.org, a website that promotes hygiene awareness while putting the M4 Aqua front and center.

According to the promotional website, which you can visit here, 92 percent of phones have bacteria on them. 82 percent is reportedly on the hands. It even says that 16 percent of both phones and hands could have E.coli.

Bacteria usually come from coming into contact with other people, sweat and exchanging money, among others. To get rid of them, the website suggested using alcohol wipes, using a UV light cleaner and washing your hands. But what about your phone?

The good Sony Xperia M4 Aqua news is that it can be washed to combat germs. Dirty Phones gave instructions on how to do this which includes keeping all ports and covers firmly closed before washing. Despite being waterproof, the device should not be submerged completely or exposed to anything other than fresh water. The USB connector should also be dried thoroughly before plugging the device to a charger.

Apart from IP68 dust and water certification, the Xperia M4 Aqua specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It has a five-inch 720p IPS LCD display and either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage expandable up to 128GB microSD card, according to GSM Arena.

As for Sony Xperia M4 Aqua news on availability, the mid-range Japanese smartphone is now available in Canada as per Android Headlines. Following Videotron, Bell and Virgin Mobile have now reportedly posted the device on their websites. Reportedly, both carriers sell the M4 Aqua for $350 outright or $0 on a two-year plan.
