A 93-year-old British bodybuilder from Zurich, Austria turns heads wherever he goes for his toned physique, but the only heads he wants to be turning are those of 'sexy young 70-year-old girls."
Dr. Charles Eugster, is a retired dentist who started to notice his body was getting flabbier in his 80s after having a very active youth but a sedentary life for 30 years when he practiced dentistry. The 93-year-old began his bodybuilding career at age 87 and even got a former Mr. Universe help him train.
"The idea is to turn the heads of the sexy young 70-year-old girls on the beach," Eugster told BBC News. "I'm extremely vain," he added. "I noticed I was getting fat."
He now works out three to four times a week, often for two hours at a time, with his regime varying depending on his goals. At a recent competition he did 57 dips, 61-chin-ups and even pulled off 48 abdominal crunches in 45 seconds.
"[Eugster] is unusual and there is a small minority of the population that can undertake that sort of vigorous activity into their 90s, but that's not true of most of us," said Steve Iliffe, a professor of primary care for older people at University College London. "Within reason it is never too late to start exercising, but you do have to remember there is a difference between exercise and physical activity."
Eugster has won titles for his fitness and medals for his rowing.
