A Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Oscar De La Hoya rematch fight dominated boxing news recently, mainly because of the undefeated American fighter's challenge against the retired boxer also known as "The Golden Boy."
The challenge was first bared by Kel Dansby of BlackSportsOnline on Instagaram.
These are two big names in boxing but how close is Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs Oscar De La Hoya rematch fight to happening? Zero.
De La Hoya himself said so. In his own Instagram account, Golden Boy, now 42, said he is not un-retiring for Mayweather. He even recalled the time when Floyd himself violated their rematch clause in their fight that took place in 2007. De La Hoya lost in this match.
"So I hear Floyd wants to give me a rematch now. Our first fight had a rematch clause, it had to take place within the year. (And then) He retired a year in one day. Look, I'm retired, I'm happy. I'm content. I'm never coming back."
The first Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs Oscar De La Hoya was held on May 5 2007 at the MGM Grand Arena and was at that time the most lucrative boxing match ever with $130 million in earnings between the two parties.
Floyd won the fight by split decision to capture the World Boxing Council (WBC) light middleweight title.
After his win against Manny Pacquiao last month, Floyd Mayweather Jr said he is willing to fight one last time. There were early rumors he will grant Pacman a rematch but it collapsed after 38-year old Floyd called it off. He got irked by the Filipino fighter's revelation he has a shoulder injury their fight.
Another name being linked to Floyd Mayweather Jr is British boxer Amir Khan who openly challenged the undefeated American fighter after his win against Chris Algieri last May. Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin also wants to take a swipe at Pretty Boy's camp said Golovkin is "'way out of his league."
