Was Kate Middleton Hacked? Defunct Tabloid The News Of The World Targeted The Duchess Of Cambridge’s Voicemail 493 Times!

| By

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton was hacked by the defunct British tabloid The News Of The World from January 2005 to August 2006.

Freelance journalist Martin Hickman, who is covering the trial of the tabloid's former deputy editor Neil Wallis, tweeted that NoTW called the Duchess' voicemail 493 times during the reported timeframe. According to Huffington Post, the tabloid allegedly "rang" Middleton's voicemail at "a rate of nearly once a day for more than a year".

Kate Middleton wasn't the only one hacked by NoTW either. In Hickman's tweet, he revealed that Prince William's voicemail was called 104 times and Prince Harry 58 times.

Both princes and the Duchess weren't the only ones whose privacy were breached either. Voicemails of royal aides were also called more than a hundred times.

International Business Times UK reported that the princes' private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton revealed in a statement that a voicemail message from Prince Harry was hacked by the controversial tabloid.

"He realised something was amiss after NOTW's then royal editor, Clive Goodman, called him the following day to ask if he was helping the young prince with an essay," the IBT report said.

"At the time I didn't know where he had got this information," the royal secretary reportedly told the jury about the hacking.

Lowther-Pinkerton's own voicemail was called 511 times in the 608-day coverage of the hacking case.

Wallis is currently under trial for conspiring to hack voicemails of significant individuals, including Kate Middleton, Prince William, Prince Harry and their royal aides.

"The prosecution alleges that he knew it was being done and agreed that it should be done," Julian Christopher, the prosecuting officer of the case, told the jury during the first trial last week.

Wallis denied the allegations that he allowed such voicemail hacking to happen under his editorship from January 2003 to August 2006.

Prince William, Prince Harry and Kate Middleton's hacking trial continues.
