"Masters of Sex" season 3 premiere is getting nearer. That means another months of quality drama and information about sexual revolution that transpired in the 60s.
Main stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan have been receiving praises for their brilliant portrayal of Bill Masters and Virginia Johnson, respectively, especially who is Caplan is doing a fine job of portraying a liberated and strong-willed sexologist who defies odds to complete their mission. While the former Disney princess seems comfortable with her role, she admitted it was never that easy.
Talking to the Hollywood Reporter ahead of "Masters of Sex" season 3 premiere next month, Caplan said she was scared at first in taking the role of Virginia Johnson who shows a lot of skin on the camera.
"The transition itself was really scary for me," Caplan says during The Hollywood Reporter's Drama Actress Roundtable. "Luckily, it served the character really well to feel like a fish out of water, to be intimidated by the man I was working with, and to feel like he was just more established in the world I was entering into. It ended up really helping me."
Virginia Johnson has a lot of steamy sex scenes in the show. There is even one sequence in the second season where she has to masturbate in front of her co-actor. The transition was hard for Caplan but because of this role, she is more at ease with her acting skills. She said she is confident now he can do both drama and comedy.
"I see myself as somebody who can do both now. I believe that the best dramas have moments of comedy and levity and the best comedies have moments of real depth, and emotional depth," the actress says of the move into drama.
She admitted though that doing nude and scenes is something she dislike the most and will never be comfortable about it.
"It still isn't my favorite thing to do at work. It's never one hundred percent comfortable, but I think it's as close as it's going to get."
"Masters of Sex" season 3 premiere is on July 12 and by that time, the show is already years away from where it ended its second season. The third season will start with Bill Masters and Virginia Johnson already on the verge of starting the sexual revolution after launching a book about their sexual studies.
