Today, it's Indonesia on top as "Asia's Next Top Model" Cycle 3 crowned Gani Ayu as the winner of the reality modeling search. While others were happy about her win, some online fans could not help but express their disappointment with the results.
Minutes after host Georgina Wilson delightfully announced the winner, fans took on Twitter and Facebook to post comments about 23-year-old Gani's "insecurities and inconsistencies" that make her competitor Monika from the Philippines more deserving for the spot.
Kevin Kester posted, "Gani, why does it have to be you? You are probably the shortest, inconsistent and insecure person to represent Asia."
The Indonesian model won prizes which include a brand new Subaru XV STI, becoming the face of hair care line TRESemme 2015, gracing the cover and fashion spread for Harper's Bazaar Singapore, and getting a modeling contract with Storm Model Management in Europe.
The final episode's judges were model-host Georgina Wilson, model mentor Joey Mead King and couture designer Alex Perry. Also sitting on the judging panel were Kenneth Go of Harper's Bazaar Singapore and Nathan Toth of Storm Model Management.
Some fans also thought Monika deserved becoming "Asia's Next Top Model 3" more than Gani, with one user posting, "I am deeply [saddened] about Monika. Monika should have [won] the competition and not that insecure Gani. But congrats Gani!"
Another fan thought Gani "always hates Monika from behind," further noting that Monika deserved to win.
One episode of "Asia's Next Top Model 3" showed Gani and Monika fighting over lying accusations and bad food eating habits with the latter being accused of placing a strawberry fruit inside a container of dessert.
Rashid Peters from Facebook meanwhile believed there has been "bad judging." She posted, "Bad judging!!! They mean to give result like this 'coz they like Filipino audience being annoyed!! Guys, let's not watch it again!"
Monika was an early favorite from the first weeks of "Asia's Next Top Model 3," while Gani won the "face of Zalora" award in a photo shoot and getting the best photo in the episode before the finals. The Filipina model won the most "best photo" throughout the competition.
"Asia's Next Top Model 3" Gani is a fashion student who is also studying the business side of the industry for the past years, the show's official website said. She stumbled into modeling when one of her friends submitted her photos for a huge modeling competition in Jakarta, Indonesia's capital.
Since then, the website said Gani has become very active in modeling and "aims to change the view that models have to be over 180cm to be successful."
Gani posted on Twitter about an hour after the telecast, "[Asia's Next Top Model] has taught me a lot about [the] modeling industry and I believe my modeling skill has improved."
Do you think Gani is an "insecure model," as what some fans say?
