"American Gods" TV series release date will probably be revealed some time next year. That is understandable because the upcoming show based on a Neil Gaiman novel of the same name has not even started production and no actor has been cast for any role so far.
Fans can somehow rejoice now as Starz has ordered a full series which will have "Hannibal" developer Bryan Filler as the showrunner.
Full series order for "American Gods" TV series was announced by Starz. Comicbook.com reported:
"STARZ officially announced today that they have given a green light to Fremantle Media North America to adapt "American Gods" for the small screen.
Fantasy and sci-fi veterans Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Heroes) and Michael Green (Heroes, Kings) will write and serve as executive producers on the adaptation. Neil Gaiman will also executive produce. According to STARZ, production on the series will begin as soon as the network casts the main character, Shadow Moon."
"American Gods" is one of the most critically acclaimed novel in history. It won Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel and has been translated to up to 30 languages all over the world.
Neil Gaiman says he is both anxious and excited to see one of his finest works given life on television.
"I am thrilled, scared, delighted, nervous and a ball of glorious anticipation. The team that is going to bring the world of 'American Gods' to the screen has been assembled like the master criminals in a caper movie: I'm relieved and confident that my baby is in good hands. Now we finally move to the exciting business that fans have been doing for the last dozen years: casting our Shadow, our Wednesday, our Laura," Gaiman said.
Although "American Gods" TV series release date is yet to be determined, Starz said they are now working to find the right actors for different roles.
"We hope to create a series that honors the book and does right by the fans, who have been casting it in their minds for years," Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said.
