Meet Instagram’s Transgender Man, Making Waves On Social Media With Miley Cyrus

| By

With almost 13,000 followers, Instagram's transgender man @isupersheng posts photos of him flaunting his tattooed biceps and toned body. Along with these posts, he also shares his inspiring story to thousands of people following him on social media.

Meet Leo Sheng, a 19-year-old college student from Michigan, filmmaker, Netflix fan, activist, feminist and somebody who transformed from being a natural-born woman to a man.

"For the past year and half, my Instagram photos have been about my transition-filled life - graduating high school, starting college, making new connections. I've been working on finding a balance between which moments I 'need' to take pictures of, and which moments are meant to be remembered and appreciated without a camera. But, the most obvious theme of my page is my transition from female to male," he shared on the official blog of Instagram.

This Instagram transgender man began posting on the photo sharing app a few years ago, a shot showing the crowd in Times Square New York, with huge billboards of product advertisements on the backdrop.

It took eight photos before Leo was able to reveal a photo of himself. It was a full body shot of him wearing a black vest over a long sleeve polo top, a pair of mocha-colored pants and finished with a pair of stylish shoes.

Looking at the photo, nobody would seem to know that he is a transgender man. One user @alex_rauff even commented on the post, "You're such a good looking boy!"

Then a couple of weeks after, Instagram's transgender man identity was revealed in a vintage photo of him sporting a hair flowing down to his neck - his previous self as a female - side by side with his cropped photo from one of his past posts, showing himself as a man.

"Hesitant to put up a picture from my past, but I know at some point, I have to stop acting like it didn't exist," he wrote as caption to the photo comparing his old life to his new.

That was the point when followers became interested in his story. He started posting shirtless photos, selfies showing him wearing a Superman tank top, one picture of his hormone injection, a photo showing his support for Caitlyn Jenner, and others that tell his story.

With his Instagram transgender man identity, Leo became the first subject to be featured in a project called #InstaPride, a social media campaign launched by top celebrity Miley Cyrus that helps transgender people share their stories, Bustle reported. Leo's recent photo is a joyous shot with Miley Cyrus taken over a yellow background. "

I'm launching #InstaPride today, in partnership with @Instagram, to share stories of transgender and gender expansive people from around the country," said Miley Cyrus. "Over the next two weeks, you'll meet them and the people in their lives who support them, as we highlight their stories of resilience."

Bustle noted that the usage of yellow in the photos is because the color is associated with happiness and is the prominent color the singer uses for her LGBT initiatives. Miley Cyrus was once reportedly known for struggling to define herself during childhood, and now has emerged as "one of the most self-assured celebrities around."

Leo and his Instagram transgender identity are perfect images for Miley Cyrus' mission. Leo believes that the family, moms in particular, is playing a huge role in raising people.

"If you know someone who's trans and they don't have a good relationship with their new family - become their new family, if they let you and want you to," Leo posted. "Make them feel wanted and loved. Show them how important they are. Everyone deserves to be accepted and supported."
