While Lionsgate is actively gearing up with "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie reboot following announcement that a new director is on board, no cast members have been named yet.
However, it's expected that the giant studio will reveal it's line up soon following director Dean Israelite's revelations about the movie.
In an interview with IGN, the director revealed that "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie reboot is already in "soft pre-production" already.
"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way," Israelite explained.
Adding, "It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it. "
"I remember it as a kid," he said. "I grew up with it in South Africa. When I opened the script I had no idea how it was going to be updated, and I was really impressed by it."
Furthermore, the "Project Almanac" director confessed that working with Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller made his accept the project.
"It needs to be completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny," Israelite said of the reboot's plot. "But like 'Project Almanac,' I hope it's going to feel very grounded at the same time, and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it.
"So I think it's going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but on that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things," he added.
Lionsgate previously stated that the reboot will tell the story of "a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world."
While there's no official cast lineup yet, Movie Pilot earlier suggested possible actors for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie reboot noting that Morgan Freeman could be Zordon; Lena Headey could be Rita Repulsa; Emma Watson as Kimberly Hart; Freddie Highmore as Billy Cranston; Malese Jow as Trini Kwan; Ray Fischer as Zack Taylor; Jack O'Connell as Jason Lee Scott; and Luke Pasqualino as Tommy Oliver.
"Power Rangers" is slated for Jan. 13, 2017 release date.
