Lionel Messi News: Argentina Star 'Mad' After Blowing Away 2-0 Lead Vs Paraguay In Copa America

| By

After winning treble for Barcelona, Lionel Messi is back in action for Argentina in Copa America which is currently held in Chile. Argentina are among the favorites to win the top South America football competition.

However, their first day in the field against Paraguay was disaster as they blew a 2-0 first half lead to get contented into a 2-2 draw.

Sergio Aguero was the first to send the ball to the back of the net and Lionel Messi followed it up by converting the penalty kick. First half was purely dominated by Argentina but come second half, things went awry for them.

Nelson Valdez cut the deficit in the 60th minute and his team tried hard to get the second one for the rest of the game. Luckily for them, regulation time substitute Lucas Barrios found a hole in Argentina defense to send a low left-footed shot following a free-kick in the 90th minute.

Lionel Messi played well in the match but they did not get the result they wanted. For that, he is mad and thinks they did not have a perfect game plan to slow down their opponents in the second half.

"We were at fault in that we should have had more of the ball in the second half and controlled the match, not they," Lionel Messi told reports after the match.

"It's maddening to go winning 2-0 and finish with a draw. We should have slowed the match down when they were coming at us. Now we have to think about Uruguay and we know we must win. There's a lot to improve and this is only the first match, now we've got to be calmer than ever."

In his Facebook account, Lionel Messi also posted how important the next game is for them.

"We wanted to win but it wasn't possible. We have to be more united as a team than ever. Now we need to think about getting a victory against Uruguay. #VamosArgentina"
