When "Empire" season 2 release date comes, the war of kingdoms has already started.
In previous interviews, series co-creator Danny Strong said the sophomore run of the hit Fox musical drama will be like "Game of Thrones." Talking at the ATX Television Festival, Strong said the chaos within the Lyon clan will intensify when the show resumes.
The first season ended with Lucius Lyon (Terrence Howard) ending up in jail and ownership of Empire Entertainment landing to Jamal (Jussie Smollett).
However, Jamal's lap is not the last stop of the business. Andrei (Trai Byers), Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) and their mother Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) are out to get the company back. The Lyon family have already been dragged into some of the most ridiculous scandals but things will get more chaotic for them with the arrival of a new character.
According to TV Line, "Empire" season 2 will see the introduction of a lesbian teen rapper described as a break-out role by the show's producers who are yet to cast an actress. The website wrote "Empire" is looking for "a baby-faced actress to play the recurring, potentially breakout role of Betty Barz - a "moody, outspoken" teenage rapper who'll be introduced before the "Empire" season 2 release date comes.
The report also described Betty as "an unapologetically butch" who will have some run in with new Empire CEO Jamal. How big this character will be? TV Line wrote Betty is the daughter of an incarcerated drug kingpin called Pops.
"Betty, who's also known as "Betty Gathers" and "The Queen O' 16S" is described as African-American, "unapologetically butch," and something of a hometown hero in her "Brownsville-Never-Ran-Never-Will, Brooklyn" neighborhood.
Her undeniable talent has led to her winning "more rhyme battles and girls' hearts than the best male vets on her block." (We're guessing "winning girls' hearts" means the new character is a lesbian, but then again, maybe that just means most of her mixtape buyers are female?)"
"Empire" season 2 release date is set on September 23. The first episode is called "The Devils Are Here."
