'The Americans' Season 4 Spoiler: Where Will Martha Be When The Show Returns?

| By

Good news are pouring for "The Americans" fans. Just recently, the FX TV series won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Drama Series, beating heavy ratings performers like "Empire", "Game of Thrones", "The Good Wife", "Homeland", "Justified" and "Orange is the New Black."

This is the first victory of the Cold War inspired TV series in CCA. Then few days after Critics' Choice win, series creators Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields shared some "The Americans" Season 4 spoiler.

Actually, those are not exactly "The Americans" season 4 spoiler. What Fields and Weisberg shared are tid bits on what to expect on the fate of Martha (Alison Wright) who at the end of the third season finally learned what his con husband really is. Martha is one of the most important characters in season three and the show brilliantly played out her arc.

Martha being investigated by her colleagues in FBI produced one of the most tensed episodes of the whole series. However, season three ended and fans are left wondering what happened next to her after learning Clark, originally Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys) is just using him to get intel from the FBI.

In an interview with Indie Wire June 10, Weisberg said the last scene between Martha and Clark is still open for interpretation.

"That's a great question," Weisberg said when asked for "The Americans" season 4 spoiler about the Martha and Clark dynamic.

"You see in that final scene how much he wants to be able to say it, but the issue isn't for us, so much, that he can't say it. It's that he doesn't know what to say. He's not yet at the point of his own personal evolution where he can actually form the words. Or else, he would tell her, I think. I mean, this is open to interpretation. But in my mind if he knew what to say, he would say it. So I think the question going forward is, is he going to find in himself what those words were?"

Aside from that, Weisbeg did not share anymore "The Americans" season 4 spoiler. He assured though that the show will pick up shortly from where it left off in the third season finale.

"We're now breaking Season 4 of the show, and we're in 1983. Among the things that happened in 1983 is "The Day After" airs. One hundred million people watch "The Day After" on the same night. There was something great culturally about that, as well. The truth is we're not in that world anymore, and there's something "great" about the new golden age of television. The truth is, you create for the form that you've got and are grateful for the audience."
