Thanks to the successful reunion at the ATX Television Festival last Saturday, talks of a possible "Gilmore Girls" movie has been buzzing in the television circuit.
The show's neighbourhood bad boy, Milo Ventimiglia, who previously doubted the success of TV show reboots, admitted that a possible "Gilmore Girls" revival "would be cool for fans." "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki also shared his enthusiasm about the project.
However, Kelly Bishop, who played Rory's grandmother and Lorelai's mother, Emily, told Glamour that producers and writers of the possible "Gilmore Girls" movie will have to incorporate a very important circumstance into the story. They would have to consider Ed Herrmann's death in writing the reboot or revival.
Herrmann, who took on the role of Bishop's husband and Rory's grandfather, Richard, tragically died last year after battling with brain cancer.
If producer Amy Sherman Palladino were to weave Richard's passing into the story, Bishop said that "it's going to have to weigh heavily on my character and depending on how close to his death that it takes place."
"It will also be interesting-and I alluded this to Amy when I spoke to her the other day-because it would have a lot to deal with the passing of Richard and the way the girls relate to not only losing him, but how they relate to me and supporting me," she added. "Can they handle me? That becomes a very thick, complicated dynamic that would have not been in place had Ed stayed with us."
Despite the excitement, Bishop admitted that a "Gilmore Girls" movie is still a toss-up. The producer herself admitted that "there's nothing in the works at the moment."
Nevertheless, should Sherman Palladino decide to pursue it, the cast and fans will be giving it their full support.
"It would be really complex and really profound," Bishop continued added. "I think she would really go to some amazing places because in Amy's life she lost her father, who she adored, while we were doing 'Bunheads'. That profound loss is still very close to her, so I'm sure she has a lot to say about it."
