True, James Cameron have decided to push back the release date of the highly anticipated "Avatar 2" movie, however with his decision comes speculations that the follow up movie to the 2009 blockbuster and equally controversial scifi show is actually in jeopardy.
Since Cameron revealed that he's not only doing a sequel, but a simultaneous trilogy instead, the level of difficulty of doing the films instantly gained attention.
And while the 60-year-old multi-awarded filmmaker already released an official statement as to why he had to delay the release date of the sequel, a more detailed explanation has been provided.
"There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a standalone film," Cameron explained during New Zealand Screen Advisory Board Meeting of the movie's delay.
Slash Film was able to quote franchise music director James Horner in his interview with "Hey You Guys," where he further explained the reason for the movie's delay.
Apparently, Cameron who is supposed to work only with three more "Avatar" films actually has more than enough script to make a fourth movie, which is not a good scenario.
"Right now Jim has four sequels, script wise, Horner said in his interview. "And he's trying to make it into three. And that is where, I think, his effort is going right now. To keep it to three sequels. Because he's got so much going on how do you keep it from expanding into a fifth movie, total. And he'll get that sorted out."
Despite the delays, the Canadian director has assured fans of "Avatar 2" movie saying that the team has been working on the sequel for years already.
"There's nothing I need to say as an artist about the state of the world and human affairs that I can't do through the lens of the Avatar universe, he said in a report by IGN. "We've had a couple of years to think through the story arc of the next three films, and every day that goes by, I believe in the stories I'm telling more and more. We're not coming out of the block fast to capitalize on the last film."
And while "Avatar 2" release date is bumped until Dec. 25, 2017, a report from Crossmap suggested that the two other films will not be affected.
"We expect to be able to accelerate the process quite a bit, because we've improved a lot of the software and the computer graphics tools, and we've been working very closely with Weta Digital down here in New Zealand developing a whole new suite of tools to speed up the process," the director explained of the sequels' process.
Adding, "We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. Were' not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that and parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."
