People are legitimately confused as to why Zoe Saldana's husband, Marco Perego, took his wife's last name instead of the other way around.
The couple, who are parents to twins, were married in a low-key ceremony in 2013.
The "Guardians Of The Galaxy" star reportedly admitted to InStyle Magazine in a recent interview that even she was a bit surprised about her husband's decision to go against marriage tradition.
"I tried to talk him out of it. I told him, 'If you use my name you are going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world'," she revealed to the magazine.
Zoe Saldana's husband gave her a seemingly carefree and praise-worthy answer, "But Marco looks up at me and says (in his Italian accent), 'Ah, Zoe, I don't give a s**t.' "
She repeated the story on Facebook after her interview earned both admiration and criticism from various people.
"Fathers, sons, brothers, men everywhere: Your legacy will not perish if you take your partner's surname, or she keeps hers. I've been made aware that a comment I made regarding my marriage has garnered some attention. I felt proud that my husband decided to take my last name as his own ... and I his," she shared on her personal account.
She added, "Men, you will not cease to exist by taking your partner's surname. On the contrary - you'll be remembered as a man who stood by change. I know our sons will respect and admire their father more because their father lead by example."
Saldana further shared that "A real 'man' leads along side his partner. A real man accepts his mortality. A real man acknowledges that nothing can be done alone."
Will Zoe Saldana's husband's decision to take his wife's last name open up a whole new era of men doing the exact same thing?
