How Much Did it Cost Dropbox to Swipe Neal Mohan From Google?

| By

Tagged as Google's '$100 million man', Neal Mohan has left the search engine giant to join Dropbox - for how much?

Cloud storage company Dropbox refused to comment about the issue, but Re/code reported that Mohan already left Google to lead the Product division of Dropbox. Similarly, the search engine giant declined to say anything about the issue.

One of the key Google executives, Neal Mohan has been working with Google for more than a decade, wearing different managerial hats within the corporation. TechCrunch last year said that the California-based search engine leader offered $100 million worth of stocks grants to keep Neal Mohan from accepting Twitter's bid.

Appointed as DoubleClick's lead executive, Mohan has been a vital force in the success of Google's online advertising unit, particularly in the display advertising arena. He has been closely collaborating with YouTube's Susan Wojcicki that people thought he was working for the video streaming sector.

Google's top executive would be coming in the file storage company at a time of intense growth and development, as Dropbox aims to penetrate the enterprise market. The Wall Street Journal on February this year shared that the online storage enterprise is showing signs of IPO expansion.

Re/code journalist Kara Swisher said that Mohan is going to fill up Ilya Fushman's role at Dropbox as head of Products.

"Mohan's new job he's been offered seems to be to replace Ilya Fushman, who recently moved to Index Ventures as a partner," Swisher reported.

Intriguingly, Dropbox is one of the few tech companies that do not bank on advertisement for revenue. So why Mohan?

"With his clear and precise expertise for Advertising related work, it comes as a little bit of a surprise that Mohan will be placed into a role at Dropbox, a company which has literally zero to do with ads," Android Headlines asked.

Mohan's motive for leaving Google is still unclear. There is still no official statement released about the alleged transition. A lot of questions still remain unresolved.
