The latest season of Benedict Cumberbatch's famous British show is still a long way away from its premiere but fans are already looking forward to finding out about the guest line-up. Who should join the "Sherlock" season 4 cast?
According to Steven Moffat, however, there is no fixed cast list as of yet. While international fans are eager to see world-famous faces in the BBC series, the showrunner admitted to Entertainment Weekly that they don't exactly have the budget available for that.
"But as Mark always says, it's better to be a star-maker," Moffat said. "We found all these people, Benedict, Scott, Lara Pulver. These people launched careers on the basis of doing the show."
He added, "It's tough because we got Benedict and Martin-they're probably the two biggest British film stars. If you pay extra money to cast somebody famous, are they actually going to provide you with one single extra viewer?"
If they can't match big British stars' talent fees, perhaps Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman can ask their close famous friends to become a part of the "Sherlock" season 4 cast.
"Thor" star Tom Hiddleston, who worked with Cumberbatch in "War Horse", might just join the show as the third Holmes brother, Sherrinford, according to reports.
Although the mysterious brother didn't really appear in Sir Anthony Conan Doyle's classic tales, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' interpretation of the iconic detictive's story is more open and somewhat non-canon. Sherrinford can definitely enter the picture if Moffat and Gatiss can work him into the fourth season's production.
Freeman, on the other hand, starred with several big shot TV and film actors for "The Office", "The Hobbit" and "Fargo". Should he consider inviting these actors to join him in "Sherlock"?
On the other hand, the show is well-known for creating superstars themselves (case in point: Benedict Cumberbatch himself). Whoever they include in the "Sherlock" season 4 cast might just make it big in the near future as well, just like its lead cast.
