Finally an update about the highly anticipated "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie reboot.
It's been quite a while since news about Lionsgate upcoming teenage superhero reboot has been made.
This time, new director Dean Israelite shared details about the movie.
In an interview with IGN, the director revealed that "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie reboot is actually in "soft pre-production" already.
"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way," Israelite explained.
Adding, "It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it. "
"I remember it as a kid," he said. "I grew up with it in South Africa. When I opened the script I had no idea how it was going to be updated, and I was really impressed by it."
The "Project Almanac" director also admitted that he was convinced to helm "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie reboot because of Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller's script.
"It needs to be completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny," Israelite said of the reboot's plot. "But like 'Project Almanac,' I hope it's going to feel very grounded at the same time, and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it.
"So I think it's going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but on that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things," he added.
Lionsgate previously stated that the reboot will tell the story of "a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world."
"Power Rangers" is slated for Jan. 13, 2017 release date.
