There's no hurry for Samsung to launch a new smartwatch for its Gear line of wearable devices. The Korean tech firm is rumored to be "taking its time" to make sure that its next-gen Samsung Gear A smartwatch is as perfect as it can be when its release date finally arrives.
Citing unnamed insiders, SamMobile said "the company has delayed the launch ['til] the second half of the year." Reportedly, the reason for this "is to ensure Samsung can follow a proper time table with its product launches." It was also written in the website that the Seoul-based tech company is "possibly [giving] the market time to settle down with the Apple Watch."
Known internally as "Project Orbis," the Samsung Gear A smartwatch will reportedly be launched together with the Galaxy Note 5 at IFA 2015 which will be held in September at Berlin.
SamMobile pointed out that the information hasn't been confirmed and is best treated as a rumor. The website did say however, that "it would make sense for the Orbis to debut alongside the Galaxy Note 5." The delayed release date also gives Samsung more time to work on its Apple Watch contender.
And it looks like Project Orbis will have a feature that its iOS rival and other Android wearables already have. The latest Samsung Gear A smartwatch rumors suggest the device could feature NFC payments.
"This would likely be used with Samsung Pay as Samsung smartwatches are normally restricted to being used on Samsung devices only," Android Headlines said noting that one exception to this is the Gear Live.
Mobile payments aren't the only things NFC technology can do.
"NFC is often used for pairing accessories like Bluetooth headsets and speakers, smartwatches themselves, and a host of other devices where it makes sense to just touch to pair instead of searching and entering PIN codes," the report continued.
