It seems like Chris Evans had a sudden change of heart.
After announcing that he's not at all interested in taking over Jeremy Clarkson's role as the new host for "Top Gear," car enthusiast revealed that he's actually doing a "secret film" for "Top Gear," Yahoo TV UK reported.
Chris Evans' love of automobiles is no secret, thus his involvement in "Top Gear" is also no surprise, however his previous statement claiming that he doesn't want to replace Clarkson as host and that the rumors were "absolute nonsense," made fans wonder about the sudden revelation.
In an appearance on Channel 4's "Sunday Brunch" show, the Radio 2 presenter revealed his involvement with "Top Gear."
"We are doing a secret Top Gear film on Tuesday," he told Tim Lovejoy.
"It still will be, because nobody knows where it's going to be but we're going to make one and see how it goes," Evans responded when Lovejoy claimed that the project is no longer a secret.
Adding, "We're making a Top Gear - we're doing a Top Gear sequence with an independent production company and we're going to see how it goes."
Former "Top Gear" host Jeremy Clarkson, who has been fired following an alleged assult of show producer Oisin Tymon, did not seem to like Chris Evans statement that he opted to mock the star's involvement with "Top Gear."
"Next week, I'm doing a pilot Radio 2 breakfast show with an independent production company. We'll see how it goes," Clarkson posted on Twitter.
His co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond, who reportedly refused to return to the show despite the huge £4 million offer according to Yahoo TV UK, also joined the mocking.
"Next week I'm doing a pilot of The Two Show on Fridays with an independent production company. We'll see how it goes," Hammond posted.
May on the other hand said, "I'm working on a new TV idea, with an independent production company, called TFI Thursday. We'll see how it goes."
According to Daily Mirror, both May and Hammond refused to return to the show without Clakson.
"Flattering though it is to be offered huge sums there'll be no going back," the source of the publication claimed. "It wouldn't feel right and their heart wouldn't be in it. They've always said they come as a team and that hasn't changed.
"They are all very excited at the prospect of having total editorial control over their new show, to make it and get it distributed. It would be groundbreaking and also incredible lucrative. They would stand to earn much, much more than they would with the BBC."
