| By

The Amir Khan - Floyd Mayweather Jr rumors are rampant in the past few days. Reports say the two are now in negotiations for their fight.

The British boxer is the one who is eager to battle the still undefeated American lightweight boxer. After his win against Chris Algieri, Amir Khan challenged Floyd to a boxing match. The American champ's camp is yet to respond.

Amir Khan - Floyd Mayweather Jr fight could be the next biggest event in boxing in the near future. For many, getting on the ring with Pretty Boy will be a big score for Amir Khan.

However, it seems the 2004 Olympic gold medalist is the only one who is interested. In his latest statement, he sounds like he is growing impatient in courting Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"I'm going to be the next Floyd Mayweather whether I fight him or not," Amir Khan said according to a report by Daily Mail.

"The pound-for-pound title means everything and I think fighting towards that is definitely the aim. All eyes will be on the welterweight division so it's about going for that now. If he retires without fighting me, I think then it's all about fighting for that pound-for-pound title that he would leave behind."

Khan added that when Mayweather retires, the lordship in the lightweight division will be up for grabs and his mission is to be the one who gets it.

"The welterweight division is the one that everyone talks about and there will still be hype when Mayweather leaves. People want to see who the next Mayweather's going to be, who the guy is that is going to take that position."

He also said that although people view Amir Khan - Floyd Mayweather Jr fight as a cash generator, what matters for him is to get to fight bigger names.

"For me now it's not the money or titles. It's more about fighting the big names in boxing, I swear it's not the money now," Khan said.

"I've made a lot of money in the game of boxing and sometimes that can mess things up for you. I'd never want to focus on the money side of things and I never really do to be honest with you. I think it's the names now. It's about fighting the likes of Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, you've got Timothy Bradley as well. Maybe a rematch with Marcos Maidana and you've got Keith Thurman there. These are the names that are going to leave you a legacy and that's what I want to do."
