"Lucifer" TV series, which will star Tom Ellis in title role, has not even reached television homes and yet, it already made a loud noise last week, thanks to a petition filed by One Million Moms to have it cancelled.
The group argues the upcoming Fox show based on the comics series of the same name is disrespecting Christianity.
The network is yet to speak about the petition, or they are interested to take it seriously. Neil Gaiman, however, took the time to respond on the petition to ban "Lucifer" TV series.
Gaiman is the creator of the comic book character and for him, the petition from One Million Moms will not produce any fruits, just the like the old times when his other work "Sandman" was subjected to such petition.
"Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the "Concerned Mothers of America" announced that they were boycotting Sandman because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters," Neil Gaiman posted on his Tumblr account regarding the "Lucifer" TV series vs One Million Moms issue.
"It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book... They told us they were organising a boycott of Sandman, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform.
I wonder if they noticed it didn't work last time, either..."
In their petition, One Million Moms said "Lucifer" TV series will only glorify Satan. An excerpt of the petition reads:
"FOX has plans in 2016 to air "Lucifer," a new series which will glorify Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh.
The series will focus on Lucifer portrayed as a good guy, "who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell." He resigns his throne, abandons his kingdom and retires to Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals."
"Lucifer" TV series release date is yet to be revealed but reports say it will be aired by early 2016.
