"Empire" season 2 release date is set on September 23, definitely earlier than what most fans expected. This is a good a news.
Now, the question is how far the story will be when the show returns three months from now? As seen in the first season's finale, the family has been divided and Lucius Lyon (Terrence Howard), the man behind Empire Enterprises, is now in prison.
According to a report by TV Line's Michael Ausiello, people can expect a time jump once the "Empire" season 2 release date hits. However, Lyon's padre de familia will still be in jail during this time.
"Sure didn't," Ausiello wrote when a fan asked if he happened to get a scoop aboutan "Empire" season 2 during a Fox event he attended.
"I was way too busy trading gossip with my tablemate Jessica Lange to do any actual work. Luckily, Vlada Gelman hit up Empire's Emmy FYC panel last Friday and managed to coax two respectable scoops out of exec producers Ilene Chaiken and Danny Strong: There will be a time jump between Seasons 1 and 2 (although neither would specify how big it would be); and when the show returns on Sept. 23, Lucious will still be in prison. But he'll be a busy little jailbird. "Lucious can do what he does no matter where he is," teased Chaiken. "Lucious, basically, has tentacles."
As for Cookie, the character of Taraji P. Henson who is also the first person related to the show to reveal "Empire" season 2 release date, she will be in a much better place. Not as fabulous as in the first season but she is somehow at peace.
"She's getting back to what she did when she built the empire," said Henson during the Television Academy event. "She's been tucked away for 17 years. Now she's been out for some time so you get to see the Cookie that actually built Empire back in the day, starting from nothing."
