"Pitch Perfect 2" and famous character Fat Amy earned a new fan this week!
While some sequels end up becoming underwhelming compared to the original, it seems that the Elizabeth Banks-directed film exceeded expectations - at least in LeBron James' eyes. The basketball star couldn't help but praise the movie.
"I went to the movies last week at a regular movie theater," CBS quoted the sports star during an press conference earlier this week. "I went to go see umm.... what's the movie with the girls and they be singing...'Pitch Perfect 2' which is unbelievable."
He also has a favorite character among the Barden Bellas whom he thinks is "awesome".
"Fat Amy is awesome," he confessed. "I love her, wherever you are. You're awesome."
Rebel Wilson, who plays the hilarious Fat Amy in both "Pitch Perfect" and "Pitch Perfect 2", promptly replied to James' love call on Twitter.
"Thanks @KingJames for the shout out today, your taste in movies is as amazing as your basketball!" she tweeted.
The NBA superstar isn't the only one who grew fond of the adorable character. She's become so popular that talks of a Fat Amy spinoff are already circling the rumor mill. Wilson herself wanted to do the film herself, pointing out a very interesting backstory for her character that could be used as material for the movie.
"There was also my backstory in the first movie that never made it on screen," the 35-year-old star previously shared to Entertainment Weekly. "The reason that Amy came to Barden University in the first place was that she was on a football scholarship, like she could kick really well."
On the other hand, the Fat Amy story could also be incorporated into "Pitch Perfect 3" since director and actress Elizabeth Banks still doesn't have a concrete plot for the sequel.
"We are really focused on getting as many butts in seats for this one," Banks told Collider about a possible third movie. "If fans embrace it, we are going to seriously think about what the continuing journey would look like, but we don't know what that is yet."
With his rave reviews for "Pitch Perfect 2", LeBron James would most likely look out for either a Fat Amy spinoff movie or a third "Pitch Perfect" film.
