'Empire' Season 2 Release Date, Spoiler, And More: Terrence Howard Describes On-Screen Relationship With Taraji Henson As 'Thrilla In Manila'

| By

When the "Empire" season 2 release date comes, series showrunner warned the show will be like a "warring kingdoms" following the events that transpired in the finale.

Terrence Howard's Lucius Lyon, the former owner and CEO of Empire recording company, has been jailed and his sons are now on different sides.

While tension-filled episode is what await audiences once "Empire" season 2 release date hits, none of it will probably be more tensed than the long-standing fight between Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. The two have a long-storied career and starred together in another music-inspired film titled "Hustle and Flow."

In a report by People from the new issue of Emmy magazine, Howard claimed he and Henson have a battle with each other that has already spanned for more than 10 years. He even calls this rivalry as "Thrilla in Manila", a reference to the epic boxing fight between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali in the Philippine city

But of course, the tension between them is not the kind that people see in their Fox TV series. He is talking about their hard work to continue shining in their careers.

"I told her, 'You will never steal a frame from me. And don't you let me take a frame from you.' That's our thing with each other. It's [like] the Thrilla in Manila. We'll keep battling until somebody dies," the "Empire" TV series actor said.

Before that, Howard described his on-screen partner as a 10-foot tall man who always need to have the last say.

"I love Taraji," says Howard, 46, "but she's a 10-foot-tall man inside. ... She needs [to have] the last word, the last look, and I don't know how to give up any ground."

"Empire" season 2 release date is set on September 23. The sophomore run of the musical drama will have 18 episodes, six episodes longer than the freshman season. Aside from Howard and Henson, the show also stars Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Gray, and Trai Byers as the sons of Howard and Henson's characters.
