'Masters Of Sex' Season 3 Premiere And Spoiler News: Veteran Actors Cast As Parents Of Virginia Johnson

| By

"Masters of Sex" season 3 premiere, set on July 12, will see a major time jump. According to reports, the HBO period drama will start its new season four years after the events in the second season.

With this big change, what comes next is arrival of new characters, particularly those who are close to lead stars Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan).

With the "Masters of Sex" season 3 premiere episode set to arrive almost just a month away, the TV series is not done beefing up its cast. Entertainment Weekly reported two veteran actors has been enlisted for the show as the parents of Virginia.

"EW has learned exclusively that Frances Fisher and Michael O'Keefe will play mother and father, respectively, to Lizzy Caplan's Virginia Johnson when they appear on season 3 of Masters of Sex (premiering on Showtime July 12). Fisher and O'Keefe are each booked for two episodes," the entertainment website wrote. The report did not specify whether the duo will appear in the "Masters of Sex" season 3 premiere.

With the show tackling a controversial matter and set at a time when sex experiments were not yet accepted, the arrival of Virginia's parents will surely mean trouble for Bill and Virginia. EW added:

"Johnson's parents will pay their daughter a surprise visit, where her mother will question both Virginia's controversial work at the office and her lifestyle choices at home. (Yep, sounds about right.)"

"Masters of Sex" season 3 premiere will bring audience to the time when Johnson and Masters are already at a time when their project is grabbing more attention. Their semi-journal "Human Sexual Response" has already been published when the show returns.

"We start with the book, and we're going to chronicle all the different kinds of reactions they got," showrunner Michelle Ashford tells EW. "What does that do to people who have been so private up until this point hiding this work? A lot of the stuff we're doing this season is about this emergence from the underground out into the light, and it's really fun because what was going on in the world at the time was the same thing. Things were going crazy."
