Will Graham's (Hugh Dancy) relationship with Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) grew rapidly in the second season.
However, when the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere comes, fans must not expect to see the two together. After what transpired in last year's finale, this friendship will forever be scarred, no pun intended.
After finally feeling like he was accepted, that Will identified with him, Hannibal now thinks the genuine friendship he offered to the FBI profiler was taken advantage of. And so, the bloody finale happened.
The two won't be seeing each other in the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere. Will is still in the United States recovering from knife wounds he received from Lecter while the cannibalistic doctor is already in Italy together with Dr. Bedelia du Maurier (Gillian Anderson).
Things did not end up good for them. In previous spoilers, series creator Bryan Fuller said Hannibal will still be occupied by the thoughts of failed friendship with Will. Is forgiveness, one of it?
Bryan Fuller talked to TV Guide one week before the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere and said that Will could forgive Hannibal but the latter might hold on to the grudge longer. However, Bedelia is there to help Lecter take away the hate from his heart.
"As much as Will Graham can forgive Hannibal his trespasses, Hannibal may not be as easy to forgive Will," said Fuller who also acts as the show's executive producer. "And the resulting therapy with Dr. Du Maurier, the recommendations of how to deal with those feelings, is pretty brutal."
Speaking of Bedelia, who in the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere and succeeding episodes will pose as the wife of Lecter, she is not yet safe. Fuller describe the con couple's relationship as unhealthy.
"We touch on what their past was and how Bedelia got herself in this situation," Mikkelsen said. "Let's put it this way: It's not a healthy relationship. It's distant but also intimate in a way. It's a brother-sister relationship that is not healthy."
"Hannibal" season 3 premiere is on June 4.
