Tracy Morgan recently opened up about the 2014 car accident that left him with severe brain trauma, a broken leg and broken ribs, according to TIME.
During an interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer, the comedian revealed that although he is healing, he is still dealing with the loss of his friend and fellow comedian James McNair.
“I can’t believe I’m here, I can’t believe I’m in front of you. And just seeing the tragedy that happened — it touches me,” stated the “30 Rock” star.
Tracy Morgan and comedians Ardley Fuqua, Jeffrey Millea and James McNair were returning from a show in Delaware and heading north outside Trenton when a Walmart truck crashed into the back of their Mercedes limo van, according to the NY Daily News.
Fuqua and Millea were also reportedly seriously injured in the six-vehicle crash that occurred on June 7, 2014.
“Bones heal. But the loss of my friend will never heal,” stated Morgan.
Morgan reportedly revealed that he didn’t remember the moment when the group’s limo bus toppled. He reportedly woke up from a coma to find his fiancee, Megan Wollover, and one of his sons by his side.
The 46-year-old reportedly didn’t find out his friend was dead until two weeks after the crash when he woke up
“My lady told me we put Jimmy to rest. Then, when I got home it really hit me,” stated Morgan.
“Every day, I’d watch the accident on YouTube. One day I came across his funeral on YouTube. I lost if for about week.”
Morgan reportedly settled a lawsuit with Walmart last week. A criminal complaint reportedly alleges that the truck driver involved in the accident, Kevin Roper, had not slept for more than 24 hours and was speeding at the time of the accident.
Morgan is reportedly hoping to returning to performing in the future.
“I love comedy. I’ll never stop loving her. I can’t wait to get back to her,” stated Morgan.
“But right now my goal is to heal and get better. Because I’m not 100% yet. When I’m there, you’ll know it.”
