The other day, "Empire" season release date was revealed. The musical drama will arrive on September 23, three months earlier than the expected January premiere.

With all these good news, what fans need to do now is read more about the show before "Empire" season 2 release date comes. After that gigantic first season finale, expect big changes. Particularly from the storyarc of prodigal son Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett).

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter during the Television Academy panel, Smollett teased Jamal will grow from a follower into a leader.

"He's going to be a very passionate leader," Smollett told THR, one day after "Empire" season 2 release date was revealed. "He's going to lead with his heart and sometimes that's going to get him in trouble."

As for showrunner Ilene Chaiken, season 2 will be more chaotic. If the first season about contention for their father's (Terrence Howard) company, season 2 will be more about war and keeping the power.

"If season one was who will inherit the throne, season two is warring kingdoms," Ilene Chaiken said during the event.

As for lead character and Jamal's mother Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), who is a heavy favorite among fans, people will see the Empress of USA's top recording company go back to where she started.

"She's getting back to what she did when she built the empire," said Henson who is also the first one to reveal "Empire" season 2 release date via Twitter. "She's been tucked away for 17 years. Now she's been out for some time so you get to see the Cookie that actually built Empire back in the day, starting from nothing."
