Compared to the previous one, "Orphan Black" season 3 episode 7 is much lighter.
After ending episode six with explosion and deaths, the seventh episode called "Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate" took a lighter turn featuring several clone switch and disguise. It also had tearful moments about reconciliation and revelations.
The latest "Orphan Black" season 3 episode is basically about Alison (Tatiana Maslany). The Soccer Mom is venturing into drugs business in her attempt to become a School trustee.
There were funny moments in the episode, one of which is Cosima pretending as her. Donnie also provided a lot of laugh after getting captured by the gang that Justin Chatwin's Jason connected them to.
The episode ended dramatically though. For the first time, Alison stood up to her mother who always expected a lot from her. She admitted that she knows her origin and she is being lied, too.
Alison introduced Cosima, her clone, to the surprise of her mother. Series creator said this part is something made for the suburban mom's growth and acceptance that her mother will always be skeptic about her.
"I mean, taking a stand against her mother has always been extremely complicated for Alison," series creator John Fawcett said of Alison's confrontation with her mother in the latest "Orphan Black" season 3 episode.
"I think that it's good to sort of have the feeling that her mother's always expected so much from her, and Alison's always felt she doesn't live up to her mother's expectations...it's not an uncommon story. But it's interesting seeing it played here with this particular character, and see where Alison takes it to."
The confrontation scene, as per Fawcett, also reiterates what Alison said in her speech that you can't choose your family, whether they are good or not.
"This outcome of revealing Cosima to her mother is a way to kind of get her mother to pull her head out of her ass," Fawcett revealed.
"And it just kind of doesn't happen. At the end of the day, her mother's head is where her mother's head is, and Alison's never going to be able to change that. And I think that's kind of what this all comes to: that Allison just realizes that she can't change her mother. And it's kind of like a weird coming to terms with herself and with her mother by the end of the episode, and you feel like maybe Alison will be a little more at peace with her mother, to some degree. Because when you're not like fighting against someone as much, you wind up having a more peaceful relationship. There's this other aspect of it, which is important thematically...which is you can't choose your family."
The next "Orphan Black" season 3 episode will air on June 6 and will be called "Ruthless in Purpose, and Insidious in Method."
