Fans who are waiting for the specific "Empire" season 2 release date will get a get a treat today. The Fox TV series has finally revealed when they will exactly return and it is better than what most expected.
The hit 2015 musical drama will not take a longer vacation as it will start airing three months earlier.
"Fox has officially marked the calendar for the hotly anticipated Season 2 kickoff of its hip-hop soap opera Empire - Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c," TV Line wrote in its report.
"Empire" season 2 release date was first bared by lead Taraji P. Henson via Twitter and was then confirmed by Empire Writers twitter handle. Henson plays Cookie, the estranged wife of lead character Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard).
Fans better prepare for the second season as it will be bigger than the first season. Before the good news on "Empire" season 2 release date, Fox confirmed it will be six episodes longer.
It will now have 18 episodes instead of 12. Also, new and brighter stars has signed up for the show. Among them are Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, and Alicia Keys. It is not clear yet what their roles will be. Singer and song-writer Ne-Yo is also confirmed to become part of "Empire" season 2 and will work with Timbaland as music producer.
"In other Empire news, Ne-Yo, who has spoken of his love for the show and desire to appear on it, has closed a deal to write music for Season 2, joining the series' music producer Timbaland,"Deadline wrote. "There are no current plans for Ne-Yo to act on the series."
Two former recurring cast members were also promoted to regulars. They are Gabourey Sidibe and Ta'Rhonda Jones, who play Lucious' and Cookie's respective lackeys Becky and Porsha.
By June, waiting for the "Empire" season 2 release date will not that be hard for fans as Fox CEO Dana Walden said there are a lot of events lined up for "Empire" fans.
"We've got a lot of big events scheduled," Walden said. "The cast has been out-Jussie [Smollett] and Yazz [Grey]-performing in various markets. They've done mall tours [and] performed in smaller venues. Taraji [P. Henson] hosted Saturday Night Live. We've got some exciting plans that will kick off in June."
