"Stay With Me" hitmaker Sam Smith underwent surgery for unstable blood vessels in his vocal cord on his birthday last Saturday. Thankfully, the operation was a success with the singer himself updating his fans of his recovery via social media.
Although he wasn't able to accept his award personally at the Billboard Music Awards last May 17, he couldn't pass up the chance to celebrate his first anniversary with his fans.
"Thank you to everyone who has supported my music over the past year," he tweeted. "You've made my dreams come true. I love you all xx #HappyBirthdayITLH"
The Grammy award-winning singer talked about his the success of his debut album, "In The Lonely Hour", through Twitter.
According to E! Online, he asked his fans - affectionately called Little Sailors - to stream the album online as well as shared new information about his hit songs.
His biggest hit, "Stay With Me", "changed my universe".
"The day I wrote this song I reacted in a way I never react. I completely broke down in tears when listening back to the vocals in the chorus," he shared.
Meanwhile, "I'm Not The Only One" reportedly widened his inspiration in songwriting.
"This isn't about me, it's me writing this as someone watching a relationship and empathizing. Writing this with one of my best friends @JimmyNapes was magical. Couldn't give up on those chords," he posted about the track.
Despite breaking down on "Stay With Me", Sam Smith revealed that his absolute favorite track from the album is actually "Leave Your Lover."
Songs from "In The Lonely Hour" won several trophies from various award-giving bodies. He received four Grammy awards for the album, including Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.
The "Money On My Mind" singer needs to recover for six to eight weeks of recovery. His next show is scheduled on July 18, the NY Daily News reported.
