With his previous works in movies and British TV series, it's not a secret that "Crimson Peak" star Tom Hiddleston can bring his character to life remarkably well.
Famous director Guillermo Del Toro must know this as well, having chosen him as one of the main characters for his latest venture into horror.
However, Del Toro didn't just rely on the actor's talents to make his "Crimson Peak" characters believable. In an interview with Digital Trends, the "Pacific Rim" helmer revealed that he personally prepared all the background information for each character in the film.
"I gave each of them a ten-page biography that says everything from what they like to eat to what sign they are and day they were born - all the story of the characters up to the point of the movie," he shared, adding that he ordered each actor not to share their own information to the others because each biography holds their character's biggest secrets.
According to "Crimson Peak" star Tom Hiddleston, the biography he received was like "a gift", pointing out that it helped each actor give a better performance for the film.
"It informs the way you play things," he told the publication of his character's (Thomas Sharpe) detailed background information.
"It makes the whole world of the film have a huge level of detail and you realize the story is a moment in time," he continued. "It's a slice of these people's lives, and they're already fascinating. There's a longer 24-episode version where you could see where everyone is coming from and going, but this is the one moment where they intersect. It's brilliant."
"Crimson Peak" star Tom Hiddleston will be portraying a mysterious gentleman who marries Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) and lures her to his childhood home, Allerdale Hall. She eventually finds out that the mansion holds a very dark and sinister secret.
Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam also star. "Crimson Peak" will be released on Oct. 16.
