After coming up short again with Washington Wizards, Paul Pierce might find another title contender come next season. The DC-based team lost to Atlanta Hawks in six games in second round of 2014-15 NBA playoffs.
Pierce, a.k.a. The Truth, so far only has won one championship and that is the time when he was still at his prime days with Boston Celtics. With him about to reach father time, there is no recourse for him but to find a team that is built to win now.
That might be exactly what Paul Pierce is exactly thinking right now. According to reports, the 1998 10th overall draft pick is already looking for a team and it looks like it is another reunion with a person who he worked with to win the 2008 NBA Championship. David Aldridge of NBA.com wrote Pierce is looking at Los Angeles Clippers who is now coached by Doc Rivers, his mentor for many years with Boston.
"Washington's main issue is complacency. The Wizards could stand pat if Pierce decides to return to D.C. next season rather than opt out of his deal, but many around the league believe Pierce will do just that and finish his career back home in Los Angeles with the Clippers," Aldridge wrote on Monday.
Shortly after Washington Wizard's loss to Atlanata Hawks, the shooting guard said this might be his last season playing. Paul Pierce said the emotional effects of every painful loss has taken its toll on his relationship with family and friends.
"Truthfully, what was going through my mind is, I don't have too much of these efforts left, if any," Pierce said. "These rides throughout the NBA season, throughout the playoffs, are very emotional. They take a lot out of not only your body, but your mind, your spirit.... I don't even know if I'm going to play basketball anymore," Pierce said.
Is reuniting with Doc Rivers the best possible move for Paul Pierce?
