Deftones To Finally Release New Album Following The Death Of Their Bassist Chi Cheng? Tracks From 'Eros' Album To Be Included?

| By

Following the tragic death of Chi Cheng from a car accident on April 13, 2013, frontman Chino Moreno, who is still emotional every time the topic is being brought up says that the band are now ready to move and release a new album.

Following confirmation that Deftones is working on a new record, the 41-year-old musician assured fans that their music will not change despite Chi Cheng's absence.

"It's definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are," Moreno explained to Rolling Stone. "We're not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box."

Furthermore, he revealed that this time around they are trying to challenge themselves into trying new things that they could incorporate with their new album.

"I feel like we've gone into the songs and really dissected them," he explained of the new Deftones album. "If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven't done in the past."

And when asked about their unreleased "Eros" album, which still included works of their late bassist, Moreno admitted that he was previously hesistant about the idea of releasing tracks from the said record.

"I get asked about that record a lot," the vocalist confessed. "For a while, I was giving the same answer, 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no.' After Chi's passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience, to say the least."

Adding, "I think it should be released, but we don't have any definite plans," he explained. "There's some work to do on it. Deftones have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I don't know if we're ready for that."
