CBS' "Supergirl" TV series is another project DC Comics has to expand its domination on the boob tube. Schedule to air this fall, this show based on the cousin of Superman stars "Glee" alum Melissa Benoist in the title role.
The trailer landed on the internet last week and the reactions was mixed. Some liked it while others think it is cringe-worthy. For cast member and former Supergirl herself Helen Slater, this show will be more than what fans expected from the trailer. She is particularly pleased with its writing.
"You just never know because I played Supergirl in 1984, and that's such a long time ago," the 51-year old actress said of "Supergirl" TV series in an interview with People.
"You hope that it won't be cheesy, and it's not at all. It's so sincere and lovely, and the writing is so good. I think it's going to be a big hit!"
Greg Berlanti, the show's developer and also behind hit CW shows "The Flash" and "Arrow" revealed in a separate interview there are many people working behind the new CBS series' script.
"Honestly, I'm so reliant on others," Berlanti said in an interview with Variety. "It's the long-term relationships I've had that allow me to do multiple things, because you have a shorthand with these people."
"I learned that I really rely on other writers - that I can break stories quickly, but I can't write quickly," Berlanti, 42, said. "I learned that it's OK that I'm not great at everything, that there are a lot of things that I may never be as good at as some of the other people I hired. Don't be threatened by that. Co-opt that. Be good at the stuff you're good at, but also know what you're not as strong at."
Aside from Benoist and Slater, "Supergirl" TV series also stars Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw.
