'The Strain' Season 2 Release Date Revealed: Interesting Plot Of FX TV Series' Sophomore Run Also Shared

| By

FX's summer line-up has been released and it includes the highly anticipated return of the vampire series from Guillermo del Toro. "The Strain" season 2 release date is set on July 12, Sunday at 10 p.m.

The show's sophomore run will also feature new interesting plot lines but with minor changes in cast and characters.

Entertainment Weekly wrote during the announcement of "The Strain" season 2 release date:

"Season 2 will focus on Eph (Corey Stoll) and Nora (Mia Maestro) as theywork to create a biological weapon capable of destroying the threat plaguing New York City. Meanwhile, Abraham (David Bradley) hunts for a possible way to kill the creatures."

So what awaits fans once "The Strain" season 2 release date comes? Expect to see new faces as in earlier spoilers released, Ben Hyland will no longer continue with his role as Zach, son of Corey Stoll's Dr. Ephraim Goodweather. He will be replaced by Max Charles. The Strain executive producer/showrunner Carlton Cuse explained the recasting through Deadline last January.

"It is a pleasure to welcome Max Charles to the cast," he said.

"We recast this part due to some specific story needs we have downstream. We are sad to see Ben go. He is a very talented actor and a wonderful person. We will all miss him and thank him for his great work."

Another thing to expect in "The Strain" season 2 is the arrival of 'The Silver Angel'/Angel de Plata to be played by Mexican actor Joaquin Casio. Silver Angel will be introduced through a pre-credit sequence that Guillermo del Toro himself worked on.

"I'm doing a little part of the first episode back too - the opening sequence. The pre-credit sequence," del Toro said back in January.

"And if you know the books, I'm doing the black and white Mexican wrestler movie. The movie that the guy, the masked wrestler, was a part of in his youth. The Silver Angel. I'm going to shoot that exactly as an old Mexican movie would be. And I'm going to shoot couple of set pieces if I can."
