The "Grimm" season 4 finale killed off several characters in the NBC show and one death, in particular, shook everyone to the core.
After four seasons, fans became quite comfortable with seeing Nick and Juliette as the couple that will be together forever. However, showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf shattered that piece of comfort in Nick's otherwise crazy life this season.
According to Hollywood Reporter, however, Juliette's death was long overdue. After all, Greenwalt (who produced both "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and its spinoff "Angel") is well-known for killing off main characters early on in a show. So when asked if the death in the "Grimm" season 4 finale was real or not, Kouf assured the site that it really was.
"We can only afford so many people in the fifth year," he said, while Greenwalt added that it was "a big twist, that's for sure."
Greenwalt continued, "As she, you know, turned into a Hexenbiest and went kind of wild and then started enjoying her powers and then felt so betrayed by Nick having Adalind's baby even though it wasn't Nick's fault... it was just the natural way she grew and developed in the course of the season and it seemed like that was something inevitable that had to happen."
With Juliette gone next season and Adalind having Nick's baby with no one else to take care of her, will a new romance be brewing in Portland soon? The producers admitted that they don't really know yet what will happen to Nick and Adalind.
"Well, she's changed a lot. He's changed somewhat and you never know," Greenwalt admitted, adding that Nick does still have "some obligation there."
One thing's for sure though, there will definitely be some "pretty serious repercussions" for Nick next season. As Kouf and Greenwalt put it, Nick "got nothing" by the end of the in the "Grimm" season 4 finale - his mother, the trailer and Juliette - taken away from him.
"The only thing he's got is a fifth season," Greenwalt half-jokingly concluded.
