Following the foot steps of the 80s and 90s most popular cartoon shows like, "G.I. Joe," "Transformers" and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," a CG-animated "Thundercats" movie adaptation is reportedly in development.
Variety previously reported that awar wining video game director Jerry O'Flaherty is in talks to direct the movie adaptation under Warner Bros.
"It feels like a natural thing for me to step into," O'Faherty said of the "Thundercats" project. "Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the videogame experience."
While the progress has been really slow since then, new reports and speculations arise suggesting that "Thundercats" is now moving forward with "X-Men Days of Future Past" star James McAvor portraying the role of Lion-O.
"I would love to see a Thundercats movie but it's never going to happen," McAvoy admitted in an interview, which can be viewed here. "Lion-O is something great for any actor out there"
In addition to McAvoy, "The Theory of Everything" star Eddie Redmayne, also expressed his interest to take on a role for a "Thundercats" movie.
Redmayne told Yahoo! News that he is interested in playing the role of either Bananaman or Snarf.
"Please, I'm desperate to do Bananaman," Redmayne confessed. "Bananaman is this great guy who eats a banana, and he becomes Bananaman. He's the one that I've always wanted to play, to the extent that Andrew Garfield - an old pal - was asked in an interview, 'If you could play any superhero other than Spider-Man, who would you play?' And he was thinking about it, and the interviewer was like, 'Bananaman?' And Andrew was like, 'No, Eddie's playing that.'"
"I'd like to play Snarf," he said.
A fanmade trailer about "Thundercats" starring Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel and Brad Pitt was also been released, which excites McAvoy.
"There is a great trailer for Thundercats where they took Brad Pitt and made him Lion-O, Hugh Jackman as Tygra and Vin Diesel as Panthro," the 35-year-old actor said.
