'Game Of Thrones' Season 5 Episode 6 Postmortem: Sansa's Disturbing Scene With Ramsay Is 'Turning Point' Of Her Journey

| By

The latest "Game of Thrones" season 5 episode isarguably the most disturbing this year, or maybe of all the five seasons. In fact, hate tweets piled up right after that episode.

The HBO TV series is not really good at weddings and they prove it again in the last episode called "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken." There is no blood this time as no blood spilled out. What was killed was dignity of one of the most innocent and naive character in the show, Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).

Sansa was left alone by Littlefinger to the House of Bolton, in the company of a psychotic Ramsay (Iwan Theon). The two are expected to get married. While the ceremony ended smoothly, the honeymoon phase was unsettling.

Sansa is a virgin. That alone makes sex a scary thought for her, plus the fact Ramsay is not the normal guy to be with. What the Bolton heir next did is he made Theon Greyjoy watch while he was raping the girl who looked at him as her brother.

This scene played out in the last few minutes of the latest "Game of Thrones" season 5 episode and the show just faded with Ramsay doing Sansa from behind.

For producer Bryan Cognan, the rape scene that transpired is basically a representation of what "Game of Thrones" is all about.

"This is Game of Thrones," Cognan said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "This isn't a timid little girl walking into a wedding night with Joffrey. This is a hardened woman making a choice and she sees this as the way to get back her homeland. Sansa has a wedding night in the sense she never thought she would with one of the monsters of the show. It's pretty intense and awful and the character will have to deal with it."

Cognan also said Sansa's rape scene in the latest "Game of Thrones" season 5 episode is a turning point of her journey.

"She's seen Theon and hated him and thinks he killed her brothers and betrayed them but she's very conflicted by what she's seeing there," he said.
