‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Cast: Pentatonix In The House! How Did ‘The Sing-Off’ Champs Handle Their Cinematic Debut?

| By

Elizabeth Banks previously revealed that "The Sing-Off' champs Pentatonix will be making life a bit harder for the Barden Bellas when they joined the "Pitch Perfect 2" cast as one of their insanely good rivals.

The Grammy-winning group spent two days filming for their part in the recently released sequel to the 2009 hit movie. They will be representing Team Canada in the World Acapella Competition that the Bellas decided to join.

However, why were they Team Canada? The group, consisting of Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kristie Maldonado, Kevin Olsula and Avi Kaplan, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that it was actually the only representation that they could do.

"There's not much we could have been!" Grassi revealed. "There was already an American team, so we just thought we were going to be either Canadian or from the UK."

But how did the five-member acapella group become a part of the "Pitch Perfect 2" cast?

According to Olsula, it was mostly due to the fans' insistence and unwavering support.

"When we were talking to the producers about being in it, they said they kept incessantly getting tweets from fans saying we should be in the movie," the group's vocal percussionist shared.

Thanks to the fans' tweets - as well as "Pitch Perfect" arranger Deke Sharon previously working with the group in the NBC singing competition - they were able to get a small part in the film. Nevertheless, Hoying admitted that he got a bit "paranoid" with their first theatrical debut.

"Sometimes when I'm performing full out, I'll see pictures or video of myself making really ugly faces or doing weird things with my hands, so I was very conscious when these cameras were coming by to act natural but not belt too full out where I was making a weird face," he said. "I was so paranoid."

Well, paranoid or not, Pentatonix have definitely become one group in the "Pitche Perfect 2" cast list that fans should look out for in the sequel.
