Negotiations for the Floyd Mayweather Jr - Manny Pacquiao fight rematch has started. Just two weeks removed from their first fight, Pretty Boy and Pacman will have to start their preparations again as according to reports, the two camps are already in discussion for a second fight.
Citing a source, Richard Johnson of New York Post's Page Six wrote negotiations for Floyd Mayweather Jr - Manny Pacquiao fight rematch is now underway.
"It's already being negotiated," a source told me. Pacquiao needs four months of rehab post-surgery, and three months to train. "The fight will be the first event at the under-construction MGM-AEG Arena set to open next year."
While the first Floyd Mayweather Jr - Manny Pacquiao fight took place generally to give the public the fight it really wants, the second is different. Floyd and Pacman has different motivations according to Johnson's source.
"All the parties involved deny talks are under way, but I'm told Pacquiao wants redemption. "He feels he fought with only one arm," said one insider. Mayweather will do it for the money. It's like Hollywood. When a movie makes that much profit, there has to be a sequel."
Talks of a rematch came up shortly after the two slugged it out on May 2 at the MGM Grand Arena wherein the American fighter retained his clean slate. Floyd Mayweather Jr. expressed his willingness to fight Pacman again but turned sour after the Filipino boxer revealed he was only defeated because of his shoulder injury prior to the match.
A few days ago, Showtime Sports boss Stephen Espinoza says Floyd Mayweather Jr - Manny Pacquiao fight rematch is going to happen. However, he cautioned it should not because of money.
"I think the biggest element that sort of sets the stage for a rematch is the fact that it was a very competitive fight. I think on most judges Floyd pulled away in the later rounds but up through the first half of the fight, it certainly was, they were sort of neck and neck and from that perspective I thought it was a very exciting, competitive and engaging fight, throughout but particularly the first six rounds it was anyone's fight."
