The whole "Mad Max: Fury Road" cast have all the reasons to celebrate as their film is reaping success both in box office and in critical reception.
This movie, fourth from George Miller's franchise and stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicolas Hoult, is a post-apocalyptic action thriller. Its first three installment starred Mel Gibson.
While the reviews are great for "Mad Max: Fury Road", some felt insulted on the message it relayed. In his blog titled "Why You Should Not Go See Mad Max: Feminist Road," author and blogger Aaron Clarey called on the public to boycott the film citing it is meant to promote feminism. He is particularly irked with the character of Charlize Theron named Imperator Furiosa. He wrote:
"Charlize Theron's character barked orders to "Mad Max" he wrote. 'Nobody barks orders to Mad Max."
As for the veteran actress, she does not think her film has such agenda. The "Mad Max: Fury Road" cast is aware of the effects of her film to the women community but she is not inclined with the idea that director George Miller intentionally put scenes that promote feminism.
"You know what I think is even more powerful about it? [It's] that I think George didn't have a feminist agenda up his sleeve, and I think that's what makes the story even more powerful, especially how the women are represented in it," the "Mad Max: Fury Road" cast said during an interview at the Cannes Film Festival according to a report by Huffington Post.
""It's just very truthful, and I really applaud him for that. I think when we use the word 'feminism' people get a little freaked out, it's like we're somehow, like, being put on a pedestal or anything like that. George has this innate understanding that women are just as complex and interesting as men, and he was really interested in discovering all of that. I think through just his need and want for the truth he actually made an incredible feminist movie."
