Are ghosts real? The new "Crimson Peak" trailer of Guillermo Del Toro's gothic horror would like to make us believe so.
The full theatrical trailer is told in Mia Wasikowska's point of view as she discovers the horrifying secrets within the walls of her newlywed home. She reveals that she has seen spirits since childhood and her new husband's ancestral home is chockfull of sinister shadows and questionable entities.
Is her husband, Tom Hiddleston, the villain in Del Toro's latest offering? Or maybe it's his sister, Jessica Chastain, who harbors sinister secrets.
In the clip, he seems to be having an internal struggle about his new wife's purpose in their lives. Did she marry Wasikowska for love or for a for some shady plan he conjured with Chastain?
Meanwhile, Del Toro's upcoming spooky movie takes the haunted house theme on a whole new level. Hiddleston's character in the new "Crimson Peak" Trailer calls the sprawling mansion "a living thing". In real life, it was built specifically for the movie.
The crew reportedly created the entire four-storey mansion just to make the film look real.
"I wanted to make the film mostly practical, with no greenscreen," Del Toro previously said. He also promised "very sick and twisted elements" to be present in the film. It would be intriguing to see how the "Pacific Rim" helmer will pull this off without using too much CGI and special effects.
According to the IndieWire, the "Pan's Labyrinth" helmer reportedly "gave up all his back end, all his points, just to be able to make an R-rated horror movie." Viewers who have enough courage to watch the scary film should expect a lot of blood and frightening spectres as Wasikowska finds herself trying to escape the haunted mansion.
Will Wasikowska be able to come out unscathed or will she eventually give in to the mansion's sinister darkness?
The film is set for an Oct. 16 release. In the meantime, watch the hair-raising "Crimson Peak" trailer below.
