James Cameron's 'Avatar 2' Release Date Is Bumped Because There Are Issues With The Trilogy?

| By

It's been six years since one of the first 3d films hit theaters and now James Cameron is already working on not only one sequel, but reportedly a trilogy.

"Avatar 2," which is supposed to debut on 2016 has been bumped to 2017 and the cause of the delay in release date is reportedly because of the difficulties Cameron is experiencing in making three films simultaneously.

"There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a standalone film," Cameron explained during New Zealand Screen Advisory Board Meeting of the movie's delay.

Slash Film was able to quote franchise music director, James Horner, during his interview with "Hey You Guys" where he explained in details what kind of "complexity" the director is dealing with.

"Right now Jim has four sequels, script wise, Horner said in his interview. "And he's trying to make it into three. And that is where, I think, his effort is going right now. To keep it to three sequels. Because he's got so much going on how do you keep it from expanding into a fifth movie, total. And he'll get that sorted out."

And while there are some issues with the franchise, the maker and creator of "Avatar 2" assured that there's nothing to be worried about and everthing is in the right pace.

"There's nothing I need to say as an artist about the state of the world and human affairs that I can't do through the lens of the Avatar universe, he said in a report by IGN. "We've had a couple of years to think through the story arc of the next three films, and every day that goes by, I believe in the stories I'm telling more and more. We're not coming out of the block fast to capitalize on the last film."

And while "Avatar 2" release date is delayed until Dec. 25, 2017, Crossmap claimed that the other two sequels will most likely not going to be affected.

"We expect to be able to accelerate the process quite a bit, because we've improved a lot of the software and the computer graphics tools, and we've been working very closely with Weta Digital down here in New Zealand developing a whole new suite of tools to speed up the process," the director explained of the sequels' process.

Adding, "We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. Were' not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that and parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."
