'The Flash' Episode 22 Recap: Tom Cavanagh Explains 20-Hour Take Of Fight Off Between Barry, Reverse Flash, Arrow And Firestorm

| By

The latest episode of CW superhero series "The Flash" was what every comic book lovers wanted. It was full of DC Comics Easter Eggs that will make someone jump out of his/her seat.

The episode, titled "Rogue Air" also provided lots of action scenes. The most epic of which is the one between this season's big bad Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) and trio of Flash (Grant Gustin), Arrow (Stephen Amell), and Firestorm (Robbie Amell).

Aside from the Hal Jordan/Green Lantern reference, it is this fight that created the loudest buzz from the other day's "The Flash" episode. Before "Rogue Air" hit the boob tube, Tom Cavanagh sat down with Variety to preview the epic fight. He's thankful it was not a "handsome off" because his younger opponents would have knocked him down right form the get go.

"It's a relief that it wasn't a "handsome-off." If it had been a handsome-off, it would've been a miserable defeat right off the bat for me," Cavanagh said. Those are three very good-looking gentlemen right there that I was facing off with.

His bigger revelation though is the scene was shot for more than 20 hours. This is pretty surprising given the fact that Stephen Amell is busy with his "Arrow" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2."

"When you do a movie, you spend two hours moving the narrative along to the big culmination or cumulative scenes," said the 51-year old actor who is also known for his roles in "Ed" and "Scrubs."

"When you do a television show, instead of two hours, you're doing 20-plus hours. But you know you're headed towards a showdown - if you're doing it right - of some sort."

"One of the most gratifying parts is that we feel we've earned it. We've put 20 hours' worth - in the case of Stephen, three seasons-plus - of effort into getting people to understand these characters, to identify with these characters, to know their world. And so, when you finally put in all that time, and then you bring the showdown, it's a lot better than having two gun fighters face off on an empty street in the opening minutes of your show."

Flash and Reverse Flash will return next week for its finale called "Fast Enough." Read the full "The Flash" episode guide for the finale below:
