Last Sunday's episode saw the end of the four year journey of Emily Thorne (Emily Vancamp) to exact revenge on the people who wronged her father.
As the title "Two Graves" suggests, "Revenge" season 4 finale saw two main characters die, Emily's nemesis Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) and her father David Clarke (James Tupper). Emily still got a happy ending though as she and her childhood sweetheart Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler) got married.
Most fans are satisfied with "Revenge" season 4 finale. However, there is one particular scene some can't get over with. Nolan Ross (Gabriel Mann) was skeptical about his future and purpose after Emily's mission was done. He did not end up empty though as his bestfriend set him up with another noble mission.
That scene where one guy approached him for help about his mother wrongfully imprisoned intrigued many fans. Some even thought it would pass up as a bridge to a spinoff show featuring the always dapper tech genius.
According to showrunner Sunil Nayar, that scene in "Revenge" season 4 finale involving Nolan Ross was not really intended to give fans hope for a spinoff TV series. What they were really planning was to continue with the story in season 5 with Nolan as the new lead. Obviously, it will no longer push through as the ABC TV series was cancelled.
"There was a thought about continuing it, yes," Nayar told TV Line when asked about that particular Nolan scene.
"We knew that Amanda and Jack would be out there somewhere, and whatever we decided to do with the story - whether it focused on Nolan or not - we would try to get some of the gang back. Amanda Clarke is now Amanda Clarke, so there's a totally different dynamic there. If we were to start a new story, we'd have to factor in that she has a different presence in the world now."
Nayar adds Nolan's story in fifth season will be like Breaking Bad's "Better Call Saul" which features Bob Odenkirk's Saul Goodman.
"When she first met Nolan, he was more famous because she was trying to be Emily Thorne. It would have been fun to see that dynamic flipped, re-focusing the show on Nolan in a Better Call Saul kind of way."
When asked if there will be a spinoff series, Nayar said nothing is sure yet and it will all depend on people's reaction on the "Revenge" season 4 finale.
"I don't think so. I think the network is going to hear what the excited response has been to that, and if I was over there, I'd certainly discuss it. So it's out of my hands, but I think it's a fun idea."
