Following huge success with the original movie, James Gunn is already working on a "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel, which is scheduled for release on May 5, 2017.
While fans are patiently waiting for the return of the intergalactic superheroes to return, the award-winning director revealed some possible plot spoilers, which will possible change the course of the story.
While, Gunn confessed that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be different from that of the Marvel Comics, he also hinted that Star Lord's father would finally be revealed in the sequel.
The details were revealed during an interview with Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend podcast, which was translated to text by FilmDrunk.
"It's not really based on anything. The story for 'Guardians 2' is an original story that I came up with that I started working on actually while I was shooting 'Guardians 1,' and it'll answer some of the questions that were put forth in the first movie about Peter Quill's father and who he is and what's going on with that, he said of the sequel's storyline.
"We'll get to know some of the characters a little bit more and then we're going to meet a couple of new characters who will be very important to 'Guardians' movies and probably important to the Marvel Universe as a whole."
Adding, "It's different than what's in the comic books. Peter Quill's father is somebody different in the comics. So then when the movie came out, we got green-lit on the sequel right away. I went in and I sat down with those guys and I'm like, 'Okay, here's what I think the sequel should be.' And they were like, 'Oh, whoa. That's risky, but okay.' Now I'm going to turn over the story in a few short weeks and we'll find out how well it works."
While no names were mentioned during the interview, there is an ongoing speculation suggesting that Adam Warlock could be Star Lord's biological father.
According to Superhero Hype, "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will start production February of next year, which will now take place at Pinewood's Atlanta studio instead of U.K.
Original cast members, Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Vin Diesel as Groot, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer will all be returning in the sequel.
