The finale of Fox TV series "Gotham" saw one of its major characters fall off a building into the water.
Fish Mooney, played by Jada Pinkett Smith, return to the city to settle the score with Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) who usurped her power as a mob boss. However, she ended up on the losing end as she was literally overpowered by the kid who will become the Penguin. Is it final there will be no more Fish Mooney in "Gotham" season 2?
While the show lost one formidable villain, it seems they will get a new bad guy for the second season. Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), who fans know is Batman's popular villain The Riddler, showed signs of madness in the last two episodes of the show.
He made his first kill when he stabbed her crush's boyfriend to death. Then in the finale, he had some kind of hallucination with his 'other self' convincing him to let loose. What is next for Nygma? Will "Gotham" season 2 see him as the new big bad?
Talking to Comic Book Resources shortly after the finale, Ben McKenzie, who plays lead character Jim Gordon, says Nygma will continue to look like an innocent, geeky investigator to the whole GCPD. As to when and how he will become a full time villain, McKenzie hints it might be a slow burn.
"I don't know what the plan is as to when people in the GCPD are going to be aware of his activities (in "Gotham" season 2)," McKenzie said. "But I think that we'll probably continue to build that as the audience sees how much further he goes in his own personal life while remaining hidden from the very cops he serves with and under."
"So I think we'll play with that and play with that, but yeah, The Riddler will definitely be a significant character. Whether he is technically Riddler yet or not in Season Two, he's going to be a major character."
There is no release date for "Gotham" season 2 yet.
