After being quiet for three years, Deftones is finally working on a new album again.
Frontman Chino Moreno, who is still emotional after the 2013 death of their bassist, Chi Cheng from a tragic car accident in Santa Clara Calif. on April 13, 2013, revealed that the American alternative metal band is carefully considering to release tracks from their unreleased album "Eros."
"I get asked about that record a lot," the vocalist admitted in an interview with Rolling Stone . "For a while, I was giving the same answer, 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no.' After Chi's passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience, to say the least."
Adding, "I think it should be released, but we don't have any definite plans," he explained. "There's some work to do on it. Deftones have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I don't know if we're ready for that."
While songs from the unreleased "Eros" album might be released, the 41-year-old musician promised that fans would hear new music from the band as they're about to release "outside of the box" songs that will not compromise the sound of Deftones.
"It's definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are," Moreno explained. "We're not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box."
Moreno added that the band members are challenging themselves by trying out things that are new to them, which they can offer to the fans once the Tool album is released.
"I feel like we've gone into the songs and really dissected them," he explained of the new Deftones album. "If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven't done in the past."
